About Susan
Susan Webb Lee has been making one-of-a-kind art quilts since the late 1970's. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, and her work is included in public and private collections both in the United States and in Europe. Ms. Lee regularly participates in both juried and invitational shows and wishes to promote public interest in the art of contemporary quilt-making.
Ms. Lee's interest in textiles grew out of her fascination with the process of dyeing, painting, and printing on fabric. It was after completing courses in surface design that she started producing hand-painted quilts and yardage fabric. Her textiles are painted with Procion fiber-reactive dyes, acrylics, or sometimes a combination of both. She uses batik (resist) processes to produce unique printed and painted designs.
Susan was honored as a recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Southern Arts Federation (1989). In addition, her work is included in the private collection of renowned textile designer, Jack Lenor Larsen of New York. Ms. Lee's work can also be found at the Fine Arts Museum of the South (Mobile, AL), The Museum of York County (Rock Hill, SC), and Appalachian State University (Boone, NC). Other corporate collections include: Knight Publishing Company, Charlotte, NC; Associated Space Design, Atlanta; Hanes Hosiery Corporation, Winston-Salem, NC; Raleigh Federal Savings Bank, Raleigh, NC; Peterson Properties, Atlanta; and Center Concepts, Atlanta.
